“Israel Vibration Inna Lion & Fox Style (A Midnight Raver Mix)

Here is my official Israel Vibration selections mix.  Considering I’ve spent half my life listening to Skelly, Wiss, and Apple, I feel sort of qualified to share this mix of my own personal favorites.  The majority of the included tracks were produced by Doctor Dread & Israel Vibration and recorded, mixed, and mastered by our good friend Jim Fox at his studio right here in Washington, DC between 1988 and 1995.  However, the tracks “Why You So Craven,” “On Jah Solid Rock,” “Morning Light,” and “Universal Father” were recorded and mixed by Junjo Lawes & Scientist at Channel One.

I have interviewed Israel Vibration, Scientist, and Jim Fox extensively about these recordings.  These interviews are presented in a 3-part piece I wrote for World-A-Reggae titled “Lion and Fox:  Making Reggae History in the Heart of Babylon.”

As you may know, the Roots Radics are featured on all tracks recorded between 1988 and 1995 at Lion and Fox.  The High Times Band plays the backing riddims on the Junjo Lawes’ produced tracks.  I recently interviewed the great Flabba Holt of the Roots Radics.  The interview can be found HERE.

I am not going out on a limb when I say that Israel Vibration is one of the very best roots reggae collectives ever, and may be the best to record since the passing of Bob Marley in 1981.

Interesting note:  “Greedy Dog” from the Strength of My Life LP features Augustus Pablo on melodica and keys.
