  6. Dermot Hussey: The man is like a “god” to me, a musical “Jedi”! I had always had an insane appreciation of music as a child. Strangely, growing up in Jamaica, I hated Reggae music (unless it was Third World, Aswad, Black Uhuru, Pablo Moses, music not from the dancehall). From the names mentioned you can see that I don’t mean all things Reggae.
Listening to Dermot, I was exposed to an entirely new world, musically, not just Reggae but what’s now called “World” music: Gilberto Gil, Fela Kuti, The Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, Linton Kwesi Johnson, music from all over the world.
Now my record collection is more than 80%inspired from what I remembered listening to Dermot Hussey, a lot of the names most of my friends have never heard of. I owe a lot to this man!

    • I appreciate the kind words about Dermot. I have the same admiration for him as a musicologist, broadcaster, and friend and I’m blessed to be able to work with him on Riffin ‘ and give the show a platform from which to build. Raver
